Summer Healthcare Exposure Pathway Program (SHEPP)
The Summer Health Careers Exposure Pathway Program (SHEPP) is a one week summer program for 10th and 11th grade students from metro Atlanta high schools interested in pursuing a career within the health professions. The program provides high school students with opportunities to experience life on an undergraduate and health professional school campus while gaining knowledge about various careers in healthcare. This program will inspire program participants to believe in their own intellectual strengths and aspire to post-secondary educational pursuits in the health professions. SHEPP will feature morning academic and didactic sessions on the various careers in healthcare, standardized test taking skills, college and professional school preparedness and a visit to a metro Atlanta health professional school (Morehouse School of Medicine, Emory School of Nursing, Mercer School of Pharmacy, etc.) each afternoon of the program.
Program Goals: 1) Increase the minority pipeline into the health professions through the introduction of various careers in the health professions. 2) Improve scholastic success through morning didactic sessions on test prep, time management, college admissions planning and other topics and 3) Provide mentorship opportunities for students through vertical mentoring sessions.
Program Logistics: SHEPP is a one week summer immersion program for 25-30 10th and 11th grade metro Atlanta high school students on the campus of Morehouse College.
Program dates: Sunday, June 8th for Orientation. Program sessions are held on Monday, June 9th through Friday, June 13th. Saturday, June 14th. 2025 is the closing brunch and debriefing session.
Program Requirements: Rising 10th or 11th grade students interested in the health professions in good standing at a Metro Atlanta High School. Minimum GPA is 3.0 or higher. Applicant must submit an official high school transcript, one letter of recommendation from a HS faculty member (administrator, teacher or guidance counselor) as well as complete and submit this online program application.
