SUMMARY:Summer Health Careers Exposure Pathway Program (SHEPP)
DESCRIPTION:The Summer Health Careers Exposure Pathway Program (SHEPP) is a one week curriculum for 10th and 11th grade students from metro Atlanta high schools. SHEPP is designed to recruit a diverse group of students interested in pursuing a career within the health professions. The program provides high school students with opportunities to experience life on an undergraduate and health professional school campus while gaining knowledge about various careers in healthcare. This program will inspire program participants to believe in their own intellectual strengths and aspire to post-secondary educational pursuits in the health professions. \nProgram Goals: Increase minority student pipeline into the health professions through the introduction of various careers in the health professions. Improve scholastic success through morning didactic sessions on test prep\, time management\, college admissions planning and other topics and provide mentorship opportunities for students through vertical mentoring sessions. \nProgram Logistics: SHEPP is a one week summer immersion program for 25-50 10th and 11th grade metro Atlanta high school students on the campus of Morehouse College. \nProgram dates: Sunday\, June 8th for Orientation. Program sessions are held on Monday\, June 9th through Friday\, June 13th. Saturday\, June 14th. 2025 is the closing brunch and debrief session.  \nProgram Requirements: Rising 10th or 11th grade students interested in the health professions in good standing at a Metro Atlanta High School. Minimum GPA is 3.0 or higher. Applicants must submit an official high school transcript\, one letter of reference from a HS faculty member (administrator\, teacher or guidance counselor) as well as complete and submit the online program application.  \nProgram Application opens: Tuesday\, April 1st\, 2025 \nProgram Application deadline: Thursday\, May 15th\, 2025 \nProgram Participants notified by Friday\, May 23rd\, 2025 \nProgram Dates: Sunday\, June 8th – Saturday\, June 14th\, 2025 \nhttps://forms.gle/qsrtqsDqYvefnwz1A

The 2024 Living Legends Gala will honor Dr. Harold Jordan\, ‘58\, well known Psychiatrist\, former Dept Chair at Meharry Medical College and the first black resident at Vanderbilt Medical Center and Dr. Willie Underwood III\, ‘88\, an accomplished Urologist\, researcher and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the American Medical Association. \nOur Black-tie tribute celebrating African-American achievement will serve as a successful event supporting student scholarships and programming for the Thomas J. Blocker Society Foundation. BLOCKER SOCIETY LIVING LEGENDS GALA HONORING  DRS. DAVID SATCHER AND LOUIS SULLIVAN \nCOVID-19 safety protocols for the Living Legends Satcher – Sullivan Gala \nIn honor and respect of our two honorees and for the safety and well-being of all guests in attendance\, The Thomas J. Blocker Society will require the following COVID-19 Safety Protocols: \nTesting \nAll guests will be required to present a negative PCR test taken within 72 hrs before the gala or take a rapid antigen test on site prior to the gala. All guests who are interested in on-site testing will be provided with a rapid antigen test kit at check-in to self-test prior to the gala. There is no additional cost associated with testing. A negative test\, either PCR within 72 hrs or on site rapid antigen\, is required to attend our event. \nVaccination \nProof of vaccination will be required at check-in in order to attend our event. All guests should bring a physical vaccination card and/or photo of their vaccination card to present to gala event staff at check-in. \nFace coverings \nIn response to COVID-19\, and in alignment with local\, state and U.S. Center for Disease Control guidelines\, face coverings are required to attend our event. Please keep your face covering on unless you are actively eating or drinking. A “face covering” is defined as a “covering that fully covers a person’s nose and mouth\, including without limitation\, cloth face mask\, surgical mask\, towels\, scarves and bandanas”. All persons that cannot wear a face covering due to a medical condition or disability\, or who are unable to remove a mask without assistance should inform the Gala Committee. \nSocial distancing \nIn alignment with CDC guidelines\, social distancing is strongly recommended. During general mingling\, please maintain social distancing of six (6) feet at all times while you keep your mask on. \nHand washing \nRegular hand washing and/or use of hand sanitizer is strongly recommended during the gala to further ensure your safety. \nSymptoms and Contact \nAny guest testing positive for COVID-19 or exhibiting symptoms regardless of vaccination status should not attend the gala. If you have positive exposure for COVID-19 within 7 days of the event\, please do not attend.
